Being a new mom comes with countless amounts of stressors. One of them is being prepared for your baby to go home. There might be a few items that you might forget that might be essential for you and your baby.
I just had my baby boy, so I’m still fresh on my baby essentials list. Here are a few items you must have for your little one:
The biggest mistake I made was not getting the car seat and the stroller set. This makes life so much easier as a new parent. Having the Carseat Stroller System gives you the convenience of transferring your baby from the car straight to the stroller. There will be no need to move your baby at all. I wish I would have invested in the whole system Carseat/ Stroller system at first. Believe me…..you will thank me for this!
- Bassinet
I know I can not sleep peacefully with my significant other at night with the baby in our bed. Bassinets are portable, you can choose to have the bassinet on your bedside or in a completely different room. Newborns need a smaller space like a bassinet instead of a large crib. There is a whole load of bassinets to choose from but my favorite and most affordable is the Cloud Baby Premium Bassinet Baby Bassinet Plus Hanging Doll on Amazon.com. This is the one I use at the moment and I approve of it.

If you know how to swaddle like a pro you may not need this. Swaddler blankets are so much easier than swaddling with a plain old blanket. These have velcro so it stays put and your baby doesn’t crawl out of them in the middle of the night. Highly recommend getting it if you don’t want to lose sleep.
- Diapers & Wipes
Are you a Huggies or Pampers mom? Or Honest? Whichever one it is this is most definitely a must-have. In my experience, any diaper will work as long as it’s used correctly and changed often. My go-to is Pampers Swaddler Newborn Diapers. This is what I have used for babies 1, 2, and 3. If you are a new mom I would recommend Pampers all the way including their water wipes!
- Bottles
Bottles may not be on the list for a breastfeeding mom but in some cases where the mom has limited or no milk supply you will need bottles. You will need at least three 4-ounce bottles, to begin with. The ones I have always used and recommend you purchase are Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow® Anti-Colic Options+™ Narrow Baby Bottle Gift Set with Advantage™ Pacifier, and Bottle Travel Caps. There are multiple different sets you can get of your choice of various colors, sizes, and other extra items. You can even add this to your Target or Amazon Baby registry.
- Thermometer
A touchless thermometer, if you don’t want to stick the thermometer in places where your baby isn’t comfortable. Having the touchless thermometer handy will save you the torture of using the thermometer with the tip. You can find this at Walmart, Target, and drugstores.
- Swing
Swings are perfect for when you need to get dinner cooked or attend to your older children while having your baby in sight. You should look for something that fits in your space. Some of the swings are ginormous to fit in your common areas. It’s by Ingenuity Swingity Swing Easy-Fold Portable Baby Swing on Amazon.com would be an affordable option, it is foldable and compact for you to put away while you aren’t using it.
I hope this helped you make your decisions on what to buy. As a mom, I’ve realized I go CRAZY when I have too much stuff including baby toys and clothes. The less you have is better for your mental health.
By having less stuff you can better pay attention to the baby. My advice to you is to only have the essentials. Your baby will grow out of everything that you stress-bought.
Don’t throw your money away on items you won’t use!
